A new Mayor has been elected at the first meeting of Weymouth & Portland Borough Council since the elections.
Councillor Christine James was chosen to serve as Mayor and Councillor Richard Kosior was elected Deputy-Mayor at last night’s meeting. (21 May)
Councillor James said: “It is a huge honour to be elected to serve our wonderful borough. Weymouth & Portland is a fantastic place and I look forward to working hard for our residents and promoting our area.”
The meeting also welcomed 12 councillors who were elected on 7 May, eight were newly elected and four re-elected. The borough council elects ‘by thirds’, which means just 12 seats are contested most years.
Following the elections there are now 14 Conservative councillors, 13 Labour, six Liberal Democrats and three independents. All the election results are available at: www.dorsetforyou.com/elections
The new council also elected Councillor Ian Bruce as Chairman of the Management Committee. Councillor Bruce said: “I am very pleased to be elected to serve. All councillors are committed to working for the good of our borough and I am looking forward to providing leadership for our Management Committee.”
Councillors were appointed to serve on borough council committees.
